What we do

Everything we do when something hurts.

A dental emergency is pain, swelling, bleeding, or a broken, loose or knocked-out tooth that can't wait for a regular appointment. Call us first thing. During office hours we do our best to see emergencies the same day, and the emergency exam with limited x-rays is $40.

  1. Emergency exam and x-raysA focused exam and digital x-rays of the problem area. $40, and you hear what's going on before anything is done.
  2. First aid over the phoneTell the front desk what happened. We'll give you first-aid steps over the phone and find the soonest time we can see you.
  3. FillingsA filling repairs a cavity, in tooth-colored material made to match your natural teeth.
  4. CrownsA crown covers and protects a tooth that's cracked, badly worn, or too damaged for a filling.
  5. Root canalsSaves a tooth whose inner pulp is infected or badly inflamed, from deep decay, a crack, or an injury. Molars included.
  6. ExtractionsSimple and surgical extractions when a tooth can't be saved. We always look at saving the tooth first.
  7. Splints for jaw painA custom splint or night guard, made to your bite, that takes the pressure off a sore jaw.
  8. Denture adjustments and relinesLoose, cracked, or rubbing? Sometimes an adjustment or reline solves it. We'll give you the options side by side.

Typical emergencies

What counts as a dental emergency

If it can't wait for a regular appointment, call us first thing.

  • A toothache that won't quit or keeps you up at night
  • A chipped, cracked or broken tooth
  • A tooth that's been knocked out or is suddenly loose
  • A lost filling or crown
  • Swelling in your gum or face
  • A cut to your lip, tongue or cheek
  • A broken denture
  • Jaw pain, or something stuck between teeth you can't get out

How the visit goes

What happens when you call

Tell the front desk what happened. We'll give you first-aid steps over the phone and find the soonest time we can see you. At the visit, the dentist does a focused exam and digital x-rays of the problem area, explains what's going on, and gives you the options and the cost before treating anything. Treatment might be a filling, a crown, a root canal, an extraction, or a splint for jaw pain.

Before you get here

What to do until you can get here

  1. Knocked-out tooth

Pick it up by the crown, not the root. Rinse gently, and try to put it back in the socket, or keep it in milk. Call right away; time matters.

  2. Broken tooth

Rinse with warm water and save any pieces. A cold compress on your cheek helps swelling.

  3. Toothache

Rinse with warm salt water and floss gently in case something is stuck. Don't put aspirin on the gum.

  4. Lost crown

Keep it safe and bring it with you. Don't glue it back yourself.

When to go to the ER instead

Go to the emergency room, or call 911, for facial swelling that is spreading, trouble breathing or swallowing, bleeding that won't stop after pressure, or a jaw injury. Once you're stable, call us and we'll handle the dental side.

After hours, call and leave a message and we'll call you back.
