What we do

An extraction removes a tooth that can't be saved: one that's badly broken, deeply decayed, loose from gum disease, or crowding other teeth. We always look at saving the tooth first. When removing it is the right call, we make it as comfortable as possible and plan what comes next.

Simple and surgical extractions

A simple extraction is for a tooth that's fully visible. After numbing, the dentist loosens it and removes it. A surgical extraction is for a tooth that's broken at the gumline or not fully erupted; the tooth may be removed in sections so it comes out with less force. Both are done here with the area fully numbed, and sedation is available.

Healing

A blood clot forms in the socket, and protecting it is the main job for the first few days: no straws, no spitting hard, no smoking. Expect some soreness and swelling, soft foods for a while, and warm salt-water rinses after the first day. We'll give you written instructions and a number to call if anything seems off.

Planning what comes next

A missing back tooth might seem fine to leave, but neighboring teeth can drift into the space and the bone there shrinks over time. Before an extraction, we'll talk through replacement options, like an implant, a bridge or a partial, and their costs, so you can plan instead of being surprised later.

Questions

About tooth extractions

Does having a tooth pulled hurt?
The area is fully numbed, so you'll feel pressure, not sharp pain. Some soreness for a few days afterward is normal and usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers.
Do you accept adult Medicaid for extractions?
We help adult Medicaid patients use the services their plan covers. Call with your plan details and we'll check what applies.
Should I replace the tooth?
Usually, yes, especially for teeth that help you chew. We'll explain your options and costs before the extraction so you can decide.
